NCR Voyix Integrates TruAge Across POS Portfolio, Extending Age Verification to About 75% of U.S. Convenience Market

NCR Voyix has integrated TruAge, the industry-developed digital age-verification platform of the National Association of Convenience Stores, across its U.S. point-of-sale portfolio, allowing convenience and fuel retailers to verify customer age at checkout through the POS technology they already run.
In an Oct. 6 news release, NACS, based in Alexandria, Virginia, and NCR Voyix, based in Atlanta and a consumer technology company, said customers of NCR Voyix's RPOS (retail point of sale) solution can deploy the certified TruAge solution through an API integration from Cullinan Group, while the new Voyix POS for CFR solution includes native support for TruAge.
With NCR Voyix joining other technology providers in the TruAge ecosystem, approximately 75% of the U.S. convenience marketplace can now access TruAge through existing point-of-sale technology, NACS said. The company previously reported that NCR Voyix's certified RPOS integration alone makes the system available to more than 20,000 stores, according to 2Firsts' coverage of the rollout.
"Responsible retailing must evolve in an increasingly digital and policy-driven marketplace," Frank Gleeson, president and CEO of NACS, said in the release. He said the integration expands retailer access to TruAge and helps create the consistency, scale and interoperability needed for age assurance to work across the marketplace.
Stephanie Sikorski, CEO of TruAge and vice president of strategic initiatives for NACS, said the tool was built by the convenience industry because it considered age assurance "too important to leave to chance—or outside commercial interests." She said expanding the ecosystem through industry-leading technology providers is critical to making digital age verification more accessible for retailers, and that scale is what makes responsible retailing easier, more consistent and built directly into how retailers already operate.
NCR Voyix framed the integration as structurally different from prior deployments. Amit Acharya, head of product for retail commerce at NCR Voyix, told CSP Daily News that most age-verification solutions have historically been standalone tools layered onto the transaction, while this integration brings "the industry-built certified age-verification solution directly into the point-of-sale technology retailers already use." "We view age verification as part of regulated commerce, not as a separate workflow," he said.
Acharya said the opportunity is not to eliminate compliance, but to remove unnecessary operational friction around it. "Convenience retailers are under constant pressure to serve more customers with fewer labor resources while maintaining compliance standards," he said. TruAge lets retailers verify age, identify fake or expired IDs and check purchase limits by scanning a physical or digital driver's license, without adding separate processes for store associates. Because verification happens inside the POS, customers move through checkout faster and associates spend less time on repetitive verification tasks, he said.
Nick East, executive vice president and chief product officer at NCR Voyix, said fuel and convenience retail customers value solutions that strengthen compliance while preserving a fast, convenient experience for consumers on the move, and that the integration helps retailers "drive efficient operations while enabling responsible sales practices."
For the industry, the move lands amid a regulatory environment in which age verification is spreading from a best practice to a contractual and, in some states, legal requirement. C-store operators and their manufacturers have been pre-empting mandates with digital ID checks and point-of-sale integration — a trend that 75% of the convenience marketplace can now source from a single certified ecosystem. The practical stakes are operational: state enforcement programs and retailer contracts increasingly require documented age checks, and a POS-native solution reduces the manual hand-raise, photocopy and re-scan steps that made compliance slow and labor-intensive.
Retailers interviewed by NCR Voyix cite three outcomes — operational efficiency, compliance confidence and customer experience — and the NCR Voyix integration is being sold on all three, a positioning that points to age assurance becoming standard retail infrastructure rather than a standalone tooling purchase.
